Late last year, I was thrilled to take part in the newly launched Newport Photomarathon. For those of you who don't know what a Photomarthon is, it's a competition in which participants take a series of photographs on predetermined subjects in a set period of time. Having entered the now obsolete Cardiff Photomarathon for many years and at most being shortlisted for a subject, to my amazement I became a category winner this time around! As part of the prize, I was given the opportunity to use the founder's studio for whatever purpose I liked, and he was also kind enough to let Chris share my prize. What did we want to photograph? Our very own model children of course!
As many of you will be aware, since setting up our business together Chris and I have only specialised in natural portraiture (of course including weddings). We do not work from a studio, though we did mimic this with the pug shoot we did, and so it was a great opportunity for us to try something different whilst gaining valuable experience. Not having much prior knowledge of studio work, we were met by the lovely Fez from Newport Photomarathon who guided us through what we needed to know, and were pretty much left to our own devices to get creative. The opportunity to use the equipment on offer was overwhelming, it was such a great experience for us both and it didn't take long with the help our gorgeous models to create some stunning images, which we were both very pleased with. In fairness to the children, they behaved very well and I think enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
Here are some examples of the work we did. Who knows, maybe we'll have our own studio in the near future?!
